katie's school / supplying #6

Earlier this month, SJ, K, and I visited a number of different daycares and nursery schools in our neighbourhood. We saw quite a range. One looked like something out of a Charles Dickens novel. Another felt like a commune. While Charles Dickens or communes may be someone else's bag, they're not what we'd like K to experience. The final spot we visited had a good vibe and so we applied to it. After picking up the books for one of my classes this morning, we went to visit that school to see where K stood on the waiting list. We found out that K is in! She stayed for snack to day and SJ and I left her for about an hour. She didn't cry, but she was very quiet. K's back on Monday for her first official day.

I supplied at a nearby school this afternoon. Over the course of the afternoon I taught library to a JK/SK class, a Grade 3 class, a Grade 2 class, and a Grade 1 class. The afternoon flew by. A grade 3 kid had a 1-minute detention at the end of the day. Yeah, one whole minute. While walking one class through the 1st floor hallway I directed kids to "Walk on the silver line" and one boy raised his hand and said meekly "But it's a gold line." [Note to self: lines come in both silver and gold.]
